Old Warehouse

- Special Characters -

Introduction

The Coders store special characters used in programming in a large warehouse. After the Drakonid invasion, mismatched characters appear in the organized warehouse. It is known that Coders are very orderly creatures and cannot afford such a mess. This is where characters for messages that are created on their planet are taken from. The warehouse Coders therefore have a lot of work to maintain order in them, and the Drakonids have added even more work. Help them eliminate the mismatched characters by stomping on them. Hurry up, because new ones are constantly appearing!

Conversation Inspirations with Children

Talk to students about known life situations or examples from their immediate environment in which they use or may encounter the concept mentioned:

  • Talk to students about non-verbal signs that we use in everyday life to convey something to someone. Ask what it means: smile, thumbs up, raised hand, lowered head, giving someone a hand, shaking head sideways, nodding head forward.
  • Also talk about sign language, which is used to communicate without using the hearing organ.
  • Talk about symbols represented by drawings, graphics: heart - e.g. paper or gingerbread, to express love, arrow drawn with chalk on the ground - indicates the direction of the road in the game, all road signs regulating the way of moving on the roads, Hieroglyphs - the earliest type of writing.

How do programmers use special characters?

Programmers preparing programs create codes written using a sequence of different symbols, which in turn translate into a programming language. The computer knows them perfectly, thanks to which it understands what we want to convey to it. Programmers use numbers, letters, as well as special characters, e.g. %, &, *, ?, #, to enter commands (single instructions).
