Data Is Coming

Introduction

The Coders constantly exchange information encoded in the form of colorful diodes. They use new data to create new messages. When they receive a new batch of information, they store it in organized databases. After the Drakonid invasion, some of the data in the databases was destroyed and is now incomplete. The lack of data causes their world to not function properly. Fortunately, you can fix this! From time to time, new data arrives to the Coders, so replenishing the database is possible. Add the missing diodes in the sequence, choosing from the falling lights those that match the pattern. The databases will be replenished, and new messages complete and ready to be transmitted.

Application Instructions

The Coders use data to create new messages. Some of the data in the database was destroyed. Fortunately, new data comes from time to time, so replenishing the database is possible. Fill in the missing diodes in the sequence, choosing from the falling elements those that match the pattern.

Conversation Inspirations with Children

Talk to students about known life situations or examples from their immediate environment in which they use or may encounter the concept mentioned:

  • What type of data can we collect? (we collect information about a person, personal data: social security number, name, surname, address, phone number, email address);
  • What do we need this data for? (to open a bank account, to make a doctor's appointment, to buy an airline ticket);
  • Where do we store such information? (in documents: ID card, driver's license, but nowadays more and more often in virtual databases: in the bank, on the patient's account, etc.).

What is data in computer science?

Data are sets of numbers, texts, images in various forms. Data are used by computers for calculations. Data can be presented (e.g., in reports) or processed (e.g., to calculate something). Such thematic sets of information organized into data structures are called databases.
