How It Works

This page explains how Motioncube uses Laser Touch hardware to build interactive projection surfaces (walls and floors), including the key components and installation principles that affect tracking stability.

Motioncube signal flow (simplified)

  1. The Laser Touch hardware (IR laser emitter + IR camera) provides the raw sensing needed to observe interactions near the surface.
  2. Motioncube analyzes this data using built‑in algorithms to detect interaction points (touch / pointer / triggers).
  3. Motioncube maps detected points to the active surface and uses them in interactive projection apps (touch, pointer, zones).

Important

Motioncube does not use the software provided by Laser Touch kit manufacturers. Motioncube includes its own calibration and its own pipeline for capturing interactions and generating signals for Motioncube interactive games. When using Motioncube, do not run any other software that accesses or controls the Laser Touch hardware (including the manufacturer’s software or calibration tools).

Key hardware components (what Motioncube relies on)

For Motioncube interactive projection, a Laser Touch setup always comes down to two critical elements:

  • an IR laser emitter (creates the interaction plane close to the surface)
  • an IR camera / sensor (observes when objects enter the laser line/plane)

Depending on the kit, there may also be a controller integrated into one of the modules. From Motioncube’s perspective, the important part is stable, repeatable sensing—and enough quality for Motioncube to detect and track interaction points reliably.
