Advanced > Lens Distortion Correction

Motioncube includes built-in, advanced tools for camera lens distortion correction. These tools rectify geometric distortions such as barrel and pincushion so that lines and shapes that are straight in the real scene remain straight in the camera image.

Applying these undistortion techniques significantly increases motion‑detection precision—especially when using wide‑angle lenses (e.g., 2.8 mm) commonly paired with ultra–short‑throw (UST) and short‑throw (ST) projectors.

Why it matters

  • Keeps straight lines straight (rectifies barrel/pincushion/fisheye)
  • Improves motion‑detection precision
  • Especially helpful with wide‑angle lenses (e.g., 2.8 mm) used with UST/ST projectors

Configuration

Go to Menu > Settings > Advanced. Turn on Service mode and select the Frame Source Settings tile.

Check Fix lens distortion in Lens calibration section.

You can try fine‑tuning lens parameters using the Simple mode, which lets you adjust basic geometric transformation parameters (see the image below).

For best results, use techniques based on the camera’s calibration files.

You can use the Undistort technique

or the Remap technique.

Both Undistort and Remap allow configuration for each resolution mode supported by Motioncube.
