Cable selection

Quick Guide: Choosing a USB Extension Cable for Your Setup

Tested and recommended cables

General rules about cable use:

  1. Length Matters

    • Up to 3 m (around 10 ft) for USB 3.0, 5 m (about 16 ft) for USB 2.0.
    • For longer distances, choose an active cable with built-in signal boosters.
  2. Passive vs. Active

    • Passive Cables: Best for short runs (2–3 m / 6–10 ft).
    • Active Cables: Have electronics that amplify the signal, ideal for distances beyond 3–5 m (10–16 ft).
  3. Matching USB ports

    • Match the cable type (USB type A, USB-C 2.0, 3.0, etc.) with your device’s USB port for optimal data transfer.
  4. External Power Option

    • If you connect multiple sensors or devices, an active cable with a power cable can ensure stable voltage and reduce data errors.
    • If you use active USB extention cable with a power cable, make sure you plugged both cables.
  5. Other Tips

    • Prioritize cables from reputable brands. Some camera models may have recommended cables to use.

Final Tip

Test the setup before final installation to avoid unexpected signal issues.
